LETS GO FISHING

I always try to go to the lake in the middle of the week, that way it gives all the weekend folks time to get off the lake and the fish time to settle down. Not to mention the fall is the best time with all the anglers getting off the lake and hitting the woods for hunting.

This is when Mother Nature shows her true colors. The colors of all the trees turning gold/yellow, and Brown/green a color you just have to see. I could write and tell you about the colors, but you just have to see them in person.

As I get close to Pick Wick, you can always tell when I am  close. You can smell the Paper Mill and if it is running, it smells to high heaven, like being locked in a outhouse. It is on Hiway 57 just before the DAM. It never fails; the closer I get the harder I push down on the gas peddle from excitement of getting to the lake, just as when I was a kid.

Back then my family use to camp at Piney Point if some of the old folks can remember that spot, that was very popular. My Dad's electric shop Tri State ARM. use to visit there every year/every weekend and the guys taught me how to Ski there. When my Dad passed, the one guy that taught me to ski came up to me and it meant the world to me (MACON). THE POINT is gone now. They use it for a barge tie up now, I guess they call that progress ....that is not what I call it.

Back to arriving at the lodge to check into the cabin that I had already reserved in advanced. TENNESSEE LANDING STATE PARK, and I always make a joke with the ladies inside as much as I come here every year and rent the same cabin they ought to just go ahead and sell the cabin to me. They were built a long time ago, so they have that seasoned smell and look to them with a wooden porch you can sit on in the afternoon when not fishing, or waiting for your steaks to cook on the grill.

Check in is a snap and off to the cabin I am headed. Check-in is at 11 am but some times they let me in early.  I back the boat in at the cabin first and start to unload the food, cloths, fishing equipment that I will not need the first trip out until I find out what the fish tell me what they want .
