A Trip That You Can Only Dream About

I know what a title for an article, but that is the only way I can explain the past fishing trip to Pickwick Lake. This trip is one of those that you dream or wish you could have every time you put the boat in the water.

It started on October 6, 2012 when we arrived at Pickwick Lake on a Saturday morning and proceeded to unpack the boat and truck. We decided not to fish the first day seeing it was about 4pm and after setting up the cabin, we were wore out. We went to the Lodge for dinner and returned to the cabin to make plans for the following morning.

Dry Creek

The first day of fishing was Dry Creek and yes, it did produce some real nice Large Mouth Bass on a Buzz Bait at the edge of the grass. I found a place at the very back of Dry Creek that was giving me some real nice Bass. I think it was about number six when I noticed one boat after another showing up for some of the action. I got pushed out of that spot, but I knew there are many more fishing hot spots that I can count on to catch some nice fish.

Panther Creek

We moved to just outside Panther Creek and that is where I found the Small Mouth. The first one weighed 5 pounds and then the guy I was fishing with nailed a 4 pounder. We caught a bunch of small fish just as long as we stayed out in about 17 feet of water and threw toward the bank and grass. The fish were coming up from the deep; eating then returning to the deep water.

Bear Creek - Jackpot

This went on our whole week except for Saturday the day before we were to leave and we had not fished Bear Creek.

I have a few spots and the guys next door told us about one spot, so off we went. Bear Creek only produced some small Bass so the guy I was with, both of us decided to hit one more spot as we were leaving Bear, and that was the Jackpot.

We pulled up on a rock wall about 12 noon and by the time we left at 5pm we had caught 90 Bass. My fishing partner got to claim big fish seeing all he was catching was 3 and 4 pound BASS. Let me tell you when we got back to the cabin I could not even raise a glass of tea.

All in all, we might have caught a little over 300 Bass for eight days and that is why I called this article A TRIP THAT YOU CAN ONLY DREAM ABOUT.

And after my life long fishing partner sent some pictures to co-workers, we are getting a list of folks that want to go next year and I must admit, Have already booked the cabin and can not wait.
